I had an incredible experience with Dr. Sugerman. I'm not sure why there are some negative reviews. I had a fairly complex situation with attaining my medical history for my FAA Medical. Dr. Sugerman and staff were exceptional in being communicative and flexible working with my timeline. Dr. Sugerman went out of her way to make sure that everything was correct and sorted in an very timely. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to get a medical with a history of ADHD. She will be in your corner.

My son had neuropsych testing here a year ago, and we had to have it redone this year by a different professional. The neuropsych report from Steinmann was brief, did not include diagnoses, and was not what the University needed for accommodations. Also, Sugarman stated in her report that my son did not have ADHD while for the past year he continued to have symptoms consistent with ADHD. The professional we saw this year found that my son does in fact have ADHD.Dr. Sugarman herself did not meet with my son to administer tests, this was done by office staff. She spoke with my son for about 5-15 minutes to ask him what college accommodations he was looking for, assuring him she would provide that, but not to glean any additional information to complete the evaluation itself. We received the evaluation which was 6 pages long, mostly consisting of charts and missing recommended accommodations and any diagnoses. She briefly spoke with my son after providing the report (for about 5-15 minutes), during which she tried to sell him on a costly treatment called computer assisted cognitive remediation that she provides. In looking into the recommended computer assisted cognitive remediation treatment, it did not appear to be an empirically validated treatment. Dr. Sugarman also recommended this treatment to my friend's child who's clinical picture was completely different than my son's. After receiving the evaluation, we asked Dr. Sugarman to provide specific diagnoses and were told we would have to pay additional money in order to obtain that level of detailed information. My son later reached out to Steinmann because the University said that his neuropsych report was not usable for accommodations. Dr. Sugarman provided a document listing functional limitations, some of which don't apply to my son, and others which are attributable to ADHD, and then stated that he should be encouraged to develop a relationship with each professor to establish accommodations. Also, prior to the eval, Steinmann said they could bill insurance but that insurance would likely not cover it. I went through the process to have the insurance approve the eval under the billing codes provided me by Steinmann, but then after the evaluation they billed my insurance company under different codes than the ones they provided me. When the insurance company and I called together to ask them to rebill with the original codes, they left us on hold for 40 minutes before we gave up and hung up. We called a week later and they hung up on us three times in a row.The neuropsychological testing we had done through a different provider was a very different experience. He himself met with my son for 7 hours administering tests. He spoke with my husband and I for an hour and a half to obtain more information. After providing a 16 page report he spent an hour and 45 minutes going over the results and answering questions. There were clear diagnoses, including moderate/severe ADHD. He also clearly listed academic accommodations (longer test times, tests administered in environments free of distractions, using a smart pen to take notes in class, etc) in his report. The cost of the test was roughly the same as what we paid at Steinmanns.I have had two friends who also had a negative experience at Steimanns. I am worried about people not only wasting their money, but wasting time in getting inaccurate evals (I feel like my son's college experience last year would have been very different if he had had an appropriate diagnosis, an accommodations plan, and appropriate medication in place).

I was worried when I heard I had to get a neuropsych exam for the FAA. I read tons of online reviews and online threads on what was required and this made me nervous to say the least. After working with Dr. Sugerman all my worries disappeared as she insured I knew all the information needed to pass the FAA exams with flying colors. All of the staff at the Steinmann Institute are stellar. They made the process seamless and easy to work with. If you are searching to get a neuropsych exam, Steinmann Institute is the best place to go.

After a comprehensive assessment, Dr. Sugerman took the time to reach out and discuss the findings presented in her report point by point. She was genuinely engaged, listened well and answered all our questions.

Dr. Sugerman and her staff are amazing. We were advised by more experienced aviators to get the medical clearance first before our son started his PPL training. Due to medical diagnoses when our son was much younger, we were told he would need testing to get any medical clearance. A friend of our family who faced similar hurdles had taken her son to Dr. Sugerman and gave her rave reviews. We reached out to Dr. Sugerman and she immediately responded. The advice she gave throughout the process was extremely valuable. We needed to work around our son's school schedule for testing and she was very flexible with us. Once we arrived at her office in Salt Lake City she and her team were extremely attentive to our son and made us feel as though we were her only patient. They took very difficult tests that were certainly aimed at mature adults and guided our 16 year old through them. The process was effective and efficient and after the testing was finished she seemed to have a direct line to the FAA. Within weeks we had the clearance though we were cautioned by other doctors that the process could take months. We are truly grateful to have worked with Dr. Sugerman and The Steinmann Institute and highly recommend their services.

Worth every penny. If you are looking for the best connected, most thorough, most accommodating team of professionals then you absolutely must choose Dr. Sugerman. They worked with me on payment and scheduling and I felt respected and valued.I chose Dr. Sugerman because of several recommendations I had received from pilots in my workforce. She is highly regarded by the FAA and aviation professionals, and an expert in the niche market for obtaining requested neuropsychological reports.Additionally her assistants Blake and Cammie are key to the operation. They are both top-notch administrators, clear, welcoming and have great attitudes and patience during very long days.Dr. Sugerman and her staff is the right choice.Side note: the office is impeccably decorated in a historical and informed aviation theme.

HIGHLY recommend Dr. Sugerman! The FAA process seemed pretty overwhelming. But she went above and beyond to guide us through to a successful result. You can have 100% confidence in her!

I went to the Steinmann Institute for an aviation psych evaluation and they gave me the best possible chance to succeed! I was well informed of the test and the testing went very smoothly. Granted those tests are no joke, but I was able to get it all done in a swift manner thanks their help!
Congratulations to STEINMANN INSTITUTE DR. L. MICHELLE SUGERMAN on winning the 2015 Patients’ Choice Awards for Psychologist in Salt Lake City, UT
